Thrift shopping, it’s pretty much an art form for those that have learned to master it. For me, I am a PRO. I have been thrift shopping since before Macklemore made a song about it and made it “trendy” and i want to share a few tips and tricks on what I have learned over the years.
The Basics
Make sure you are fed and caffeinated. lol, this may seem obvious but honestly it can turn into an eventful day without the the necessities.
Clean out your closet in order to recycle and make room for new items.
Go to a decent neighborhood in your area and start at THAT goodwill. Try upscale resale stores first: Beau Monde Exchange, Uptown Cheapskate, Hut no. 8, Platos Closet.
The Next Steps
Be open to the men’s section. You may find gems here you wouldn’t have, if not being open minded.
Shop according to section + color scheme. This may seem simple, but often times the larger the store the more overwhelming it may be.
Have an Idea of what you are looking for. A general theme, for example; Graphic Tees!
Strong Finish
Look for basics, layering pieces, and staples. THESE are going to be rotated the moisten your closet, and if you can thrift them, they can turn out to be very cheap option.
TRY EVEYTHING ON ( iff applicable). These item were most likely owned before and have either been stretched, shrunk or fit quite different than it may have originally.
HAVE FUN! get creative with unique pieces and have fun!
