If anyone is as obsessed with Disney like I am, you may need to add Burano to a list of magical places you should visit. This tiny little island could be straight out of a Disney Princess movie. All the houses are lined up right next to each other and they are each painted in bright colors from green to red and blue to pink.
Mike and I took a boat to this little island, and we pretty much could walk around the whole thing in about an hour. We wandered looking at each house and what color each specific one was painted, took photos because of course it was a blogger’s aesthetic paradise. Each local we met was extremely kind, and all the restaurants close at 6pm! At first i thought this was so odd, obviously being an american where everything is open all hours of the night, but I gained a completely new understanding about the quality of life these locals had in order to go to work, and still be home in time to enjoy family dinner together. That was such a beautiful picture of italian culture, and we were able to experience it first hand.
As we were walking around I could not help but sing “belle” in my head from Beauty and the Beast. you know the one that goes “little town, it’s a quiet village. Every day, like the one before.. (something… something), bonjour!” Even though that movie is set in France, It felt like we were walking on a set in Disney! A few locals passed by with baguettes and a local woman was washing her windows with a towel, and the cutest elderly couple left their home together holding hands. I almost broke out in song and dance right then and there because it was just too perfect!
If you are visiting the Venice area in Italy, you HAVE to make Burano a stop. You won’t be disappointed. This little town was far more romantic and intimate than any of the activities we did in Venice, including the iconic gondola rides. Each sidewalk was picturesque
