Amsterdam Recap

Mike and I traveled to Amsterdam for his birthday as one of our first trips together. It was in late September early October so it was a little cold and it reminded me of Seattle so much. The rain and grey, sort of overcast we had the entire time we were there, was a little nostalgic for me. We packed enough to layer, but we were only going to be there for 2 days. The city itself is such an artistic and entertaining area. We knew our stay was going to be short, so some of the touristy things we could have planned were saved for the next time we visit. I think we may want to stay at least 3 whole days next time, as 2 was too short.

Mike and I booked a hostel room for only 29 euros a night each. We booked 2 beds in the co-ed room, I was with him, so i felt more comfortable and we ended up sharing a twin bunk anyway. The location was blocks away from Dam square, which had all the shopping and river boats, so we could walk to everything!

The city is a little confusing if you are not familiar or good with directions it can be hard to navigate. We actually got lost on our way to the hostel. It intertwines with itself with winding canals and bridges and street, such an intricate design and so beautiful! Most of the locals get around by way of bicycle, the roads are hardly wide enough for vehicles, a bike rent may be a smart idea if you intend on doing a lot of exploring or walking.

There are stroopwaffles in every bakery. I would get a sweet one with fruit and a cappuccino. Our favorite bakery was_____ such a great view of Dam square, a canal and the perfect spot to people watch. We shopped a little in Dam square and then made our way to The Seafood Bar for dinner. My bloody mary came with an oyster shooter and it was delicious! The seafood in Amsterdam is to die for, and Michael at the time was a vegan and thoroughly researched which spots were the best.

Needless to stay we did not have enough time, and hope we can travel back soon.
